The Deer Chronicles

Good Morning to Everyone!

Winter is finally here, and the threat of snow is heavy in the air. It's been at least three weeks since I've seen our "family". I do believe that they have moved on. Here's my theory:
There is a man-made waterway that runs through Winchester, called the Town Run. Built to alleviate the threat of flooding from heavy rains and Spring thaws, it winds its way through town, running under streets and through open land, and is much like the L.A. River, but on a much smaller scale. This Run happens to go right through the small woods in which our family was residing, so I believe this is how they arrived in the first place. At either end, the Run turns into a creek which feeds onto verdant woodlands. One end terminates on the Glen Burnie estate, a sprawling mansion with lots of posted wooded areas. The other end opens onto the wooded properties of the local Country Club (also posted). For the deer, it's a win/win situation. I only hope that this is the way they went!
We wish them Godspeed on their trek, and thank them for the opportunity to have watched "Bambi" and her children, as they grew from fawns to young adults. I only hope that we are so blessed with such a "gift" next season.
I will be posting photos from the Deer Archives from time to time, just to keep the memory alive.

Until later, DaveKay
.
So take a peek out your window and see WHAT'S IN YOUR BACKYARD ??

They look lovely and peaceful!

Our backyard has a friendly robin in it this morning, lots of starlings and collared doves, a woodmouse, some blackbirds and sparrows..... but no deer.
